What We Believe

Beliefs at Zion Lutheran Springfield Ohio

As Lutheran Christians we accept the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther, a German theologian whose theology revolved around the doctrines of "Grace alone, faith alone and scriptures alone". Therefore we believe:

  • We are saved by God's grace alone. We cannot do anything to earn salvation.
  • Our salvation comes through Christ and our faith in the triune God who grants us forgiveness, life in the spirit and salvation as a gift.
  • The Bible gives us the foundation for this faith.

Our congregation is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA). The Church's confessions are as follows:

  • We believe in the Triune God – God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
  • We believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior.
  • We believe that God's proclamation to us as both law and gospel is the Word of God.
  • We confess the Apostle's, Nicene and Athanasian Creeds as true declarations of the faith of this church.
  • We believe in the Gospel, recorded in the Holy Scriptures and confessed in the creeds and Lutheran confessions as the power of God to create and sustain the church for God's mission in the world.
